Michael is the eldest child with a little sister. His mother left education early due to her pregnancy, and now works in Nairobi as a housemaid. Michael has no relationship with his father since he walked out on their family. Michael now lives in Buchirinya village with his maternal grandmother who is seriously ill and does some casual work to earn money.

There are five children living in the house in total, including Michael’s brother. Michael shares a bed with his grandmother. They do not have their own latrine so use a neighbour’s and they have to shower behind the house.  The family draws their water from a neighbour’s well which they use for cooking and cleaning.

The family owns a farm where they had planted maize which they recently harvested. They also have a kitchen garden and they have just planted kale.

Michael attends Milimani Primary school in Musanda and is very active. He loves riding old tyres and playing football. At home he helps his grandmother by going to fetch water. He sometimes has a balanced diet but only when his grandmother can afford it.

What sponsorship means

The moment you start to support one of our children at St Irene’s or Noah’s Ark we instantly work on building that bond between you and your sponsored child. We’ll send you a Welcome Pack the moment your sponsorship begins and you will receive three updates throughout the year from us about your child – a home visit report, birthday update and a handwritten letter/drawing from your sponsored child.

We allocate the different sponsorship amounts you generously pledge according to the type of support needed by the children in our care. Your donation will help towards the costs of education, food security, health, psychosocial support, income generating activities and so much more!
