Sheril lives with her mother and siblings in a small iron-sheet house with no beds or bedding—just rags on the cold floor. Since her father passed away in 2024, her mother does everything she can to support the family, taking on any work, even construction, just to earn a little income.
The family lives in a rental house on a homestead. They pay the 500 shillings (approx. £2.90) in a month. During this rainy season it is very cold at night. Sheril and her siblings have no bedding, so they sleep on rags which impacts their sleep and overall health.
They often go without food, light their home with a kerosene lamp, when they can afford it, and have no health insurance. Sheril is bright and eager to learn, but hunger and hardship make school a daily struggle.
