Veronica is the second-born child and has three siblings. Her mother did not finish her primary education, and her father did not continue to secondary education due to financial constraints. The family relies on casual labour to meet their daily needs, but securing work is often difficult due to the lack of stable opportunities.
The family lives in a small, one-room mud house with old iron sheets for roofing. The house lacks a window and has a makeshift door. They have a quarter-acre of land, where they grow maize and sweet potatoes for their own consumption. However, food insecurity is a persistent issue, and Veronica’s parents are forced to seek additional work to provide for their children.
Veronica and her family have limited access to healthcare, but this is affordable most of the time. Veronica is looking forward to starting school at St. Irene’s.
