Ernest’s Story
My name is Ernest Mukabana. I am 16 years old being born on 7th May 2004, I am the last born in the family of three siblings, I am a partial orphan who comes from a small village called Buchirinya in Mumias West sub county, my father died in the year 2005 after being sick for a short time, he left me when I was one year old and my mother has been taking care of me since then until now.
I Joined Nasio Trust in the year 2008 when I was four years old through yearly recruitment and Nasio trust saw that my family’s condition was not good and they opted to recruit me, I started schooling at St. Irene day care and went through my pre-primary school life, I later graduated and joined Milimani primary and Nasio has been supporting me throughout my primary life with the help of my mother who volunteers at the spirulina project. Nasio Trust has also helped me and my family because it built a house for us and now we sleep under a good shelter.
I completed my primary education in 2018 and started volunteering at Nasio Trust in different departments for one year, I was not able to join secondary school because my marks could not allow it, and later through the help of Nasio Trust sponsorship, I was able to join Butere Technical and vocational training centre in 2020 where I study electrical engineering which is my area of interest.
I have also been affected with Covid – 19 because I was still a first year student and everything was still new and fresh and everything just stopped, meanwhile I enjoy volunteering at Nasio Trust project where I spend most of my time and am also able to nurture some of my talents. I am thankful for the support and hopes that Covid – 19 will seize so that I continue pursing my dreams so that I may also give back to the society in future.
Big thank you to Nasio Trust. God bless.
