I have been raised by my grandmother since birth because my mother, who is living with HIV, has not been able to care for me. I don’t know my father.
My grandmother looks after me and seven of my cousins, even though she struggles with her health and uses crutches. We live together in a house with incomplete walls, and at night we share bedding. Our toilet is made of mud with an iron sheet roof, and we bathe outside behind the house. We fetch water from the community spring and survive through small-scale farming, planting maize, beans, and vegetables when the rains come.
I would like to be a doctor in the future.
