Abigael is one of two children of her parents, however, she has been raised by her maternal grandmother since birth. Abigael’s mother is mentally unstable and is living with HIV. Unfortunately, she does not know Abigael’s real father. She lives in Mombasa and isn’t involved in any income generating activity. Abigael’s grandmother has seven other grandchildren which she looks after. She is physically challenged as she uses crutches to aid her movement this proves difficult for her to secure an income generating activity in the community thereby provisions for her grandchildren needs becomes a challenge. The family lives in a three roomed semi-permanent house with an iron sheet roofing. Some part of the house does not have a complete wall. The family has a toilet made of mud and iron sheet roofing. The family has no bathroom, they take a shower behind their house at night. The family fetches water from a community water spring.
The family practices subsistence farming where they grow vegetables, maize and beans during the rainy season.
