Scovia lives with her grandparents and her sister.  Scovia was born out of wedlock, when the mother was in form two. The mother managed to complete secondary school education after Scovia’s birth, leaving Scovia with the maternal grandmother. After school Scovia’s mother left with her to go to Yimbo town in Nyanza province  to work for a small business to earn a living. It was at Yimbo, in a relative’s house, that the fire tragedy befell them. Scovia’s mother died while trying to search for Scovia, who was rescued by neighbours.

The family lives in a three roomed mud house with iron sheet roofing. They own a farm where they always plant maize and beans. Currently they have ploughed both their main farm and their kitchen garden in preparation for the planting seasons.  At home Scovia helps in the kitchen and with cleaning, washing clothes and collecting firewood.

Scovia is a disciplined and a very hardworking girl. At school her favourite subject is science. Last year during the Covid-19 school break Scovia actively attended the feeding programme and also participated in all the activities and chores she was paired in.

What sponsorship means

The moment you start to support one of our children at St Irene’s or Noah’s Ark we instantly work on building that bond between you and your sponsored child. We’ll send you a Welcome Pack the moment your sponsorship begins and you will receive three updates throughout the year from us about your child – a home visit report, birthday update and a handwritten letter/drawing from your sponsored child.

We allocate the different sponsorship amounts you generously pledge according to the type of support needed by the children in our care. Your donation will help towards the costs of education, food security, health, psychosocial support, income generating activities and so much more!
